| Travel through a panorama of waterfront history with Tim Tielman, author of Buffalo’s Waterfront. A modern landmark—the Erie Basin Lighthouse of 1973— and an old one—the Buffalo Light of 1833— are the bookends of this new and fascinating tour. You’ll see the sights from atop the Erie Basin lighthouse, where the harbor and city spread out like a living textbook. You’ll also visit the grounds of the Coast Guard base, where the 1833 light is located.
The view itself is worth the trip! Travel the streets once thronged by sailors and ruffians, Grover Cleveland, and the saloon boss of bosses, Fingy Connors. See the Old First ward and walk on top of the breakwater whose foundations were laid by Samuel Wilkeson in 1824, creating the city. Stand next to soaring grain elevators. Discover the telltale signs of the old Erie Canal and its sister canals. |
